Prompt authentication dialogue issue using IE8 to access SharePoint sites hosted on Windows Server 2008(R2)

I was trapped on a wired authentication issue for a long time. after eliminated loopback check issue, if your scenario matches:

1. SharePoint Server 2007 host on IIS7 or higher. on other words, The OS is Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2.

2. Using Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 and IE8 to visit SharePoint sites.

3. Got authentication dialogue after IIS Recycled even if you added the sites to Local Intranet Zone of Trusted Sites.

Oops, you got the infamous Win7 and IE 8 incompatibility bug。more information, click this link.

It is suggested you to Disable the Kernel Mode Authentication (which is disabled by default for SharePoint 2010).

If you do not know how to do it, let’s keep looking 🙂

1. Find your SharePoint Sites in IIS Manager, double click Authentication.
